After hearing a copy of the rough recordings of this album a while ago, it’s great to see that top UK label Undergroove have put their faith in these Scottish grinders and given this awesome slab of sickness a polish-up and an official release.
Featuring the psychotic vocals of Paul Catten (Murder One, ex-Medulla Nocte) alongside an already impressive line-up of Scottish underground talent, Co-Exist are a truly devastating prospect. Surgical Removal, the product of this collision of talent, is a truly vile piece of work. Each track is a spitting, sneering slab of mayhem, a crushing blend of Murder One and Napalm Death from the opening Urge To Mutilate through 18 tracks of uncontrollable, unhinged carnage. Through the likes of Teeth Meet Fist and Grinddogs, Co-Exist play with the sort of brutal force that will have lesser bands weeping in the corner. The feral vocals further add to the chaos with Cattens unmistakable screams slaughtering your eardrums with second frontman Dawson and drummer Quzzy. Whereas the original mix sounded a little muddy taking the shine of this Scottish outfits talent, thanks to Undergroove, Surgical Removal can now be heard in all its unpleasant, hellish glory.
The Scottish metal scene rarely gets a look in although with bands like Mendeed and Co-Exist tossing out dishes of the quality that they are, it seems that our friends north of the border have much more to offer than the doubters thought.
